Shakespeare and Company is an independent English-language bookstore located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, opposite Notre-Dame. Internationally renowned, the bookstore is a labyrinth of books welcoming over 3,000 visitors per day, drawn by its history, its shelves filled with volumes, and its literary events. The Shakespeare and Company Café, established in 2015, is now an integral part of the institution.

Mission :

Reporting to the Head of General Services, your responsibilities will include:
Maintenance of workspaces and equipment
Acting as the main point of contact for staff regarding any issues to be resolved
Liaising with service providers (maintenance, cleaning, etc.) across all bookstore and café spaces
Monitoring and coordinating intervention schedules for various contractors
Tracking invoices and managing billing follow-up
Monitoring maintenance schedules and sending reminders
Supervising safety systems (fire safety, CCTV)
Participating in fire drills
Proactively suggesting improvements
Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations


Project and works follow-up
Monitoring ongoing works and projects
Assisting during renovation or maintenance periods (access, scheduling, preparation of spaces, etc.)


Upkeep of public-facing spaces
Managing bookstore consumables (light bulbs, paper for the “Mirror of Love,” etc.)
Maintaining customer and staff signage
Ensuring the library space is clean, functional, and welcoming (typewriter in working order, fresh flowers, book displays, etc.)
Opening the piano for public use
Assisting with the bookstore animals (dog or cat, etc.)


Tumbleweed Residency Program follow-up
Managing arrivals and departures according to the schedule
Handling keys and access badges
Coordinating with the cleaning team to ensure schedules are respected


Event support
Assisting with the organization of events from a logistical standpoint (setting up chairs, clearing spaces, etc.)
Managing sound equipment
Supporting the team in handling the public

Profil recherché :

You have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in hospitality or facilities management. You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
You are autonomous, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
You have experience managing facilities and working with diverse stakeholders.


This is a highly operational role requiring responsiveness and problem-solving skills.


You are fluent in both English and French (working languages).


Additional Information
Permanent full-time position (CDI), starting as soon as possible
Weekend work required (Sunday to Thursday schedule)
Working hours: opening shift (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) or closing shift (1:30 pm – 9:30 pm)
Applicants must already have the right to work in France (no visa sponsorship available)
This position is to be filled as soon as possible on a permanent contract. Requirement to work on weekends, and in evenings. You therefore need to already have the right to work in France, as we don’t offer visa sponsorship.
